Läuse!

First, let me just say, and I believe this to be true, that it doesn't mean you are dirty, never-washing, trailerpark skeevyfolk, just because you get some dread infestation of tiny little ugly bugs in the hair.

Lice are tiny little blood sucking insects. They are described by 'headlice.org' as follows:

Small, wingless insects flattened dorsiventrally. Antennae - short, 3-5 jointed. Eyes reduced or absent, and ocelli absent. Mouth parts highly modified for piercing and sucking blood of host; retracted within head when not in use. Palps absent. Thoracic segments fused together, without the least rudiment of wing. Legs short, tarsi with one joint and one claw: leg adapted for clinging to hair of host. Abdomen without cerci.

Here is what they look like:

In other words, little blood sucking insects that are very very hard to get rid of. We've had an epidemic of sorts in these parts in the last months. Some blame it on being too close the the 'eastern bloc', others on global warming. But lice infestations happen everywhere all the time. This time its us. Next time it will probably be in Rochester (and on us).

We have administered several applications of noxious poison on our children's hair in order to erradicate them. The stuffed animals are wrapped in Hefty bags and put on the balcony for a couple weeks. ALL the bed adornments are washed. Then we wait, cuz the 'nits' (as in "don't be a nit picker"), if they aren't killed by the noxious poison, will hatch in 3-5 days; then you got it again, and you have to, just like it says on the instructions on every shampoo bottle after 1973, repeat.

Anyway, I got tired of all this rigamorle, and just decided that to get rid of the pests, the easiest thing to do is to remove what it is that they are looking for. That's right, the hair. Nobody else went for this solution, and I have to say I was disappointed by the lack of enthusiasm. I recommend the procedure, at least once in a lifetime.

Here is me, after application of the guaranteed best head lice removal and prevention method:

Cool, huh?
